PRODUCTION a converting company. We are, in essence, a converting company. Converting companies are companies that specialise in combining raw materials such as plastic films, adhesives, tapes, foams, silicone, plastics, felts, rubbers, liners and metals, as well as other materials, to create new products. In our case we add plant seeds as a raw material to create unique solutions. Carriers such as paper, foil, non-woven and cloth are produced in long, continuous sheets that are rolled up for more convenient handling and transportation. These rolls of material vary significantly in size and weight — ranging from 0,5 to 2 meter wide and 10 to 500 meter long. We take these continuous rolls of thin, flat materials — known as webs —, thread them through processing machines (such as printing presses, laminating, coating and slitting machines) and convert or change the web of material into an intermediate form or final product. This activity is known as web processing. Our coating technologies can include hot melt coating, gravure coating, curtain coating and slot-die coating. All processes are suited to high speed roll-to-roll processing. Many converting companies will process large diameter, wide rolls of material as this increases the converting efficiency by minimising changes. On completion of the converting process the rolls may be cut into smaller rolls on a slitting machine. Converting processes are typically used in the manufacturing of labels, tapes, composites, packagings, hygienic & medical products. The converting philosophy is the basis on how we treat seeds. Seed enhancement refers to various technologies used to increase the consistency of seed performance, thereby improving a crop’s harvested yield and quality. Seed enhancement technologies are gaining increasing attention for their potential to confer greater disease resistance in seeds, improve seed vigor and modify seed emergence capabilities. Above illustration shows a simple schedule of our manufacturing process. Mother-rolls of seed carrier material are processed on a continuous production line. The first production step is the coating of carrier material with an adhesive, followed by step where plant seeds are distributed in the coating. The seeds are fixated to the carrier when the coating is dried in the oven. At the end of line the production rolls are converted to the right dimensions and packaged. Product is then ready to be shipped to customers.
